The Effects of Novice Counselor¡¯s Inner Career Decision-Making Motivation on Psychological Burnout - Mediating Effects of Counselor Self-Efficacy

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between career decision-making motivation, psychological burnout and counselor self-efficacy for preventing psychological burnout among novice counselors and to verify whether counselor self-efficacy mediates. This study was conducted 225 graduate students majoring in counseling and counselors with less than 3 years of counseling experience in the counseling field by using career decision-making motivation scale, korean Burnout Inventory, and self-efficacy scale. For analysis, statistical program R was used and the 'lavaan' package was used to verify the structural equation model. The main results are as follows: First, internal career decision-making motivation and counselor's psychological burnout were negatively correlated. Second, internal career decision-making motivation and self-efficacy were significantly correlated. Third, counselor self-efficacy and counselor psychological burnout were found to have a significant negative correlation. Fourth, counselor self-efficacy had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between internal career decision-making motivation and counselor psychological burnout. Based on the results of this study, we discussed the significance, limitations and suggestions of this study.
